New Road School of Parlin is one of its kind school in NJ. It houses special students who could prove the world wrong in spite of their disability. During the math’s class, all are allowed to play video games developed by other students. Daniel Rohrer explains, “We’re helping kids improve on their grades so they can do better in school, but then eventually later in life they’re going to have knowledge to be able to get past everything else”. These students are part of the “Millstone Township Middle School’s Future Problem Solvers Club”.
Dan Kazanjian, a sixth grade teacher said, “We want to make education a way in which kids can actually look into problems that exist in their community and say, ‘Hey, I may be 11, 12, 13-years-old, but what can I do to make a difference?” Students Aidan and Daniel are from the club that also includes Millstone Township Middle Schoolers. New Road students proved the importance of Millstone Township Schoolers and the impact that has been created.
The Middle School students created Game questions and Answer Options. With seven video games across 3 varied subjects, Earth Science, Social Studies and History. In most of the occasions, the questions focused on the students would always be grade based. Adian’s sister Molly McGovern attends New Road and when asked her, she said, “It’s really fun and it’s really interesting getting to know how these kids get to learn so fast”. She also said, “I love helping them learn. I just love seeing their smiling facesevery day”.
Teachers at New Road use Video Games in their Classrooms every week. Science Teacher Amy McVey said, “I think it makes it more fun for the students. I think it motivates them a lot more to want to learn”. The process could eventually improve their skill level and concentration. The ability to think wise always has a presence in their minds which robotically makes them above par with other students.
