The USCIS received a staggering 2,36,000 application for H1B this year while the cap had been set at just 65,000! With the filing period long over and the computerized lots claimed to be done with, it is time for the H1B premium processing to happen.
This Premium Processing Service by the USCIS aims to provide accelerated processing for certain employment-based H1B petitions. A 15-day period for processing these petitions is given at $1,225. However, the USCIS will refund this service fee in the case the application has not been shortlisted to be processed.
This number is apart from the 20,000 reserved for students who have done STEM courses in US universities with outstanding performance. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics courses and will focus on rewarding the crème de la crème of intellects.
The date for this Premium Processing Services was initially set as 16th of May 2017 but has been preponed to 12th May for administrative reasons. This means that everyone who filed for premium processing will need to get their H1B receipt notices by May 12th for the adjudication of their petitions to be complete by May 27th, 2016.
Experts’ advice to the applicants is to be calm and not fret comparing their application status to others who update on this online. Premium processing ensures that by the end of the 15-day window, one way or the other you will know the decision. It is a fact that the USCIS has received more applicants than what this year’s quota dictates so be prepared for every scenario.
