Right from the days of MGR we have seen a lot of mainstream heroes fighting against an evil, saving poor people from procrastination and involving in various social welfare activities. Here we have such onscreen stars stretching out their support for the people in Chennai, who are affected in recent flood caused by heavy rain.
Extremism is the word that can be used for describing Chennai. When it is hot, it is really hot and when it rains, the city floats. The percentage of rainfall has increased significantly this year and it is reported that, Chennai has witnessed a never seen before rainfall in the past 40 years.
Areas including Tambaram, Perambur, Ambathur and other outer areas are severely affected by floods. Number of people lost their lives while a lot of habitats left hapless. The neighboring town Cuddalore suffered more than Chennai in terms of hospitality and other basic amenities.
Though the relief measures are unfolded by the Government of Tamilnadu in certain places, the popular actors and their fans supplied food packets and other amenities to the flood affected people.
Actor Vijay fans were seen distributing food along with other basic amenities in Tamabram and the nearby areas on behalf of ‘Illayathalapathy’ Vijay Fans Club. Raghava Lawrence gathered a lot of workers from his charitable trust and catered loads of food items for the victims of heavy rain. Actor turned politician Sarath Kumar personally made his way to the affected places to arrange basic amenities for the people suffering without shelter.
New general secretory of South Indian actors’ association actor Vishal served food and financial aid to the people of Egmore and Parrys. Noted comedian in Kollywood Santhanam donated reasonable funds to the flood affected areas in Cuddalore.
People of Chennai and Cuddalore are relieved with the current climatic conditions as there is no heavy rain for the past two days. However, according to the reports, it will take at least a week or more for the city to get back to normal mode provided if there is no further rainfall.
Well, in these kinds of social predicaments, it is good to see the contribution of our on screen heroes which apparently projects them as real heroes.
