October 16, 2012: Popular South-Indian movie actress Nayantara is simply elated, having been picked by the government of Andhra Pradesh for the highly esteemed Nandi award.
The award is for her performance as Sita in super hit telugu movie ‘Sri Ramarajyam’ directed by Bapu.
The actor, who was catapulted to fame by her roles in Billa and Chandramukhi, is now making a comeback in the south Indian movie arena after a quiet period. She will soon share screen space with Ajith in his upcoming, yet to be titled movie, and also with Rana Daggubati in Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum.
The actress recently broke off with Prabhu Deva, after being rumoured to be marrying the latter and it appears to have helped her in concentrating more on her acting career.
Also, by winning this award, Actress Nayanthara has proved that she can also do well in roles like that of Sita, although she is mainly known for her glamorous roles in movies.
The Nandi Awards for excellence in Telugu cinema for the year 2011 were announced on Saturday, October 13, at a press meet in Hyderabad. The Jury was led by senior cinematographer and producer S Gopal Reddy.
Apart from Nayanatara, who was announced as the Best Actress, Mahesh Babu was picked as best actor for his role in Dookudu. ‘Sri Ramarajyam’ also won the Best Film Award for the year 2011. N Shankar was selected as the Best Director for Jai Bolo Telangana.
