Priyanka Chopra"s assistant - Jiban Patra, came to LA with her entourage earlier this month. He was supposed to accompany Priyanka to Vancouver for the TOIFA award event, but he could not get a Canadian Visa on time and had to stay back at the Beverly Hills hotel. Jiban was found dead in his hotel room on 7th April. LAPD is investigating the case and prima-facie the immediate cause of death appears to be a heart attack. While Priyanka Chopra is back into her busy schedule the dead body of Jiban Patra"s is lying abandoned in a LA mortuary for last 7 days.
The authorities have allowed the body to be returned to India but shockingly, neither Ms. Chopra nor the Indian Embassy is willing to bear the cost of $ 15,000 for transporting his body.
Jiban was from Balasore, Odisha and had worked as a driver for most of his life. His family now is left with no earning member and includes a widow mother (his father died last year), a widow sister-in-law (wife of his elder brother who died few years ago), a widow wife, two of his own kids and two of his nephews. His family is eagerly waiting for his dead body and have even visited PC"s office in Mumbai with a request but till the time of writing this article there was no news of either PC or the Indian Embassy taking any responsibility.
