An interesting piece of information was revealed by the external affairs minister of India, Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi recently. On Saturday, Sushma Swaraj presented a speech in a meet in which she invited the Indian diaspora to participate in India’s growth story.
Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD) saw the presence of Sushma Swaraj in its first limited edition inaugural ceremony. While she was addressing the meet, she said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would like to issue Aadhar Card to all the NRI’s for the purpose of their security in overseas job search. Especially for women workers who will be allowed to work in Gulf countries, this scheme would be highly beneficial as fake agencies can’t cheat them.
After Indian government had decided to merge Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) with Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the PBD was gathered for the first time. Skill India, Digital India and Clean Ganga initiatives are some of flagship programmes initiated by Government of India in which Sushma requested the diaspora to participate.
Extending Aadhar Card scheme, Sushma said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would like to implement it for Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) card holders.
Aadhar card is a 12 digit unique identification number that are so far issued to 92 Cr citizens of India after collecting their biometric information.
