Northeast US braces for powerful Blizzard

March 13, 2017: The Northeast US is set to be hit by snow. Residents have been advised to wear suitable clothing to protect from the cold weather.

Forecasters have warned that a huge storm is making its way towards New England and New York State. Snow and heavy winds are likely to hit NYC and Boston on Monday and Tuesday, sources say.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard watch for New York City, Long Island, southern Connecticut, southern Rhode Island and some places in eastern Massachusetts, including Boston.

As forecasted, as much as 12 to 18 inches of snow is expected in northern New Jersey, 8 to 12 inches in most of Central Jersey and 4 to 6 inches in parts of South Jersey from late Monday night up to late Tuesday night.

Outside NYC, the blizzard watch also covers Long Island, Southern Westchester, Southern Fairfield, Southern New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties.

Forecasters have also issued high-wind warnings for the South Jersey shore for Tuesday for possible gusts as much as 55 to 60 mph. Power outages are likely all through the Northeast due to these strong winds, forecasters say.

Upwards of 4,000 flights were canceled for Tuesday. Coastal flood warnings have also been issued to alert people on the possibility of moderate tidal flooding.

The stormy weather is expected to bring in as much as 20 inches of snow to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic on Tuesday, sources say.

A number of Americans took to social media to share photos and give a peek on the situation caused by severe weather.
