Wow - At age 3 and 5 two young Indian siblings have done their parents proud, the 3 year old Akash Vukoti and his sister Amrita Vukoti from Cleveland, Ohio are the new members of the American MENSA. This prestigious organization has only 57,000 members, and in order to be accepted as a member one needs to have an IQ in the top two percent of the population. These two incredibly gifted children were born to Dr. Krishna Vukoti, a scientist and Chandrakala Vukoti an engineer, both of whom migrated to the US years ago.
The kids have a fascination for alphabets and numbers. Akash, at age two participated in the Multistate Spelling Bee Competition, and cleared the written round. He has also mastered the Merriam Webster’s primary dictionary meant for ages 5 – 7 - ask him to spell ‘Massachusetts’ or ‘Tallahassee’ he does it effortlessly. His current reading abilities are comparable to kids who are three times older than him. Amrita is a topper in her kindergarten class averaging above grade levels of her age. The children who speak English and Telugu love Indian film music and dance.
The life-time membership of MENSA offers them the privilege of eligibility of seeking scholarships in some of the best schools of Ohio. The proud father of the kids said to Fox news,” Amrita wants to become a doctor and a scientist, while Akash wants to become an astronaut”. Are we seeing kids who will be strong contenders for a Nobel prize some day? I have a hunch we are.
