March 8, 2017: The much anticipated launch of Tata Motors’ first connected sports car was held at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show on Tuesday. Racemo, the first product from Tata Motors’ Tamo brand, is a two-seater mid-engine sports coupe designed at the Tata Motors studio in Turin, Italy.
Touted as a spotless hodge-podge of Italian and Indian creativity, Racemo arrives with styling inspired from race cars and also features of Tata’s design language IMPACT. Among the car’s eye-catching design features include a muscular front bumper, slim and slick Bi-LED headlights and, above all, a wicked-looking nose.
The car runs on a turbocharged and intercooled 1.2L Revotron engine capable of generating 190hp power output at 6,500rpm and a peak torque of 210Nm at 2,500rpm. It also features a 6-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) with paddle shifters.
The Racemo uses double-wishbone suspension arms for the axles. While the front has 205/50 R17 tubeless radials, the rear flaunts heavier 235/45 R18 tubeless radials.
Thanks to Tata's new partnership with Microsoft, the Racemo also flaunts connected car features like cloud based advanced navigation, car remote monitoring and predictive maintenance technologies.
In terms of safety, Racemo has driver and passenger air bags, a MOFlex body construction with crash safety protection and disc brakes with ABS and EBD (Electronic brakeforce distribution). There is a standard three-point seat belt with optional four-point harness as well.
Tata Motors has assured that the Racemo will come to Indian roads in the near future. What’s more, the Indian auto giant has also launched the Tigor styleback sedan that will be available in India from 29 March.
