The new organization for Telugu people in Chicago, the Chicago Andhra Association (CAA) hosted its first ever 'Vanabhojanalu' at St. James Forest Preserve in Naperville on the 11th of June. Over 1200 people attended this picnic. This was easily the largest gathering of Telugu people in Chicago of all time!
The event started at 11 and the forest preserve was buzzing with activity and filled with Andhra fervor and flavor! The traditional Andhra lunch, 'Aritaku lo bhojanam', was served on Banana leaves by women clad in traditional sarees. Tandoori Chicken, corn, and delicacies from Rayalaseema & Andhra were served and people braved the long line and heat to get a taste of the traditional food! This was followed by fun activities and games like musicals chairs, tug of war etc. for families. The cooking competition saw the contestants making Laddu.
A number of people from nearby states and region also attended this event at Chicago. A number of other activities await Chicago Telugus in the upcoming days. The American Telugu Association (ATA) will be conducting the ATA Silver Jubilee Conference in the city for which various Telugu Organizations in the US like the CTA, TTA, CHITA, TANA & ATA have extended support.
