A heavy thunderstorm in Agra has wreaked havoc at the entrance of the Taj Mahal complex on Wednesday night.
The wind’s speed had crossed 100 Kmph, leading to the demolition of a 12-feet metal pillar which is known commonly as Darwaza-e-Rauza. The historical monument comes under the purview and protection of Archaeological Survey of India and they are yet to have their say on the mishap. Needless to say, it is the Darwaza-e-Rauza gate which gives visitors the initial view of the stunning Mughal architecture.
Although there’s no official statement on the severity of the damage, photographs depict the minaret scattered in chunks on the ground. Luckily though, none were injured. Moreover, this is not the first time such damages are taking place. In the beginning of 2016, one of the minarets was possibly damaged, and the ASI had their fingers pointing on the monkeys for making it feeble after initially stating that the ruin might have been caused by the cleansing activities which were taking shape by then.
As per reports of The Times of India, the thunderstorm has taken away the life of nearly four people in the sacred city of Mathura and one person in Bijnor.
