On U.S. Independence Day – The 4th of July, every citizen of the United States celebrates the anniversary of the publication of the declaration of Independence (in 1776) from Great Britain. July 4th is a Federal Holiday, State Holiday, and City Holiday where the government buildings and post offices are closed all day.

The Flag of the U.S.A is a symbol of freedom and liberty to which American citizens pledge their allegiances by standing at attention and facing the flag with their right hand over the heart and reciting:
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

The flag contains 13 alternating red and white stripes that symbolize the 13 original colonies, and 50 white stars on a blue field, with each star representing a state.
