Why is India unfairly obsessed with Fair skin?
In one of my visits to India, I found something tawdry and offending. Why India is unfairly obsessed with fair skin? We were looking at a bear in the zoo, located in Lucknow; I felt really embarrassed only to find that these people were gawking at my African-American friend, rather than they did at the beast. Why they don’t recall their ancestors of Indo-European and Dravidian origin? When #India is unfairly obsessed with fair skin, why can’t these meatheads understand that they endorse racism and immorality?
The worst case are the matrimonial ads, which implies racism through demand – From wheatish to fair, fair to very fair and sometimes almost white! How shameless we are to ignore this social evil?
Have you ever thought that of tracing the brutal racism and flesh factors behind this obsession of India with fair skin? My African-American friend was questioned by the security, the moment he entered the ATM – “what are you up to?”…
On the other hand, he was falling over my white friend! No wonder that #India is obsessed unfairly with fair skin.
How long can you keep drooling at an almost-white woman? What about her personality and kindness? I didn’t mean that all the dark people are good, but why to be a prey to the evil jaws of our culture? Still I don’t understand, #why is India unfairly obsessedwith fair skin?
I appreciate Nandita Das for taking a call on this, “dark is beautiful”! Beauty is all over- may it be white, olive, brown or dark. How of us would daringly accept that Bipasha Basu looks better than Kareena? When it comes to outlook, it’s all about your facial features.
Above all it’s all about, how do you respect and show kindness to our fellow humans?
