Does “Spare The Rod” Really Mean Hitting The Child? “Being Human”

“Spare the rod and spoil the child” is a proverb that doesn’t mean what these Indian parents are busy at – hitting the child. “Corporal punishment” is the recipe to sow the seeds of violence in their tender hearts. Is there a day when Indian parents would analyze the context of the saying “spare the rod and spoil the child” – It’s a surprise that they don’t even take pains to know the source of this saying? The word “rod” as in “spare the rod and spoil the child” really refers to a shepherd’s rod (Ref: Bible, Proverbs: 13-29).

“You raise a hitter, not a child”

I’m not a parent, but I could still understand parental love. Research shows that Indian parents are considered to be the most arrogant among the others – You hit your son and you’re provoking him to be a “hitter”.

“Shepherd doesn’t spank the herd with a rod”

I’m not trying to be religious, but just to educate you the true context of saying “spare the rod and spoil the child”. A shepherd never uses a rod to beat his herd, but to hit the evil force that’s trying to prey upon on his sheep.

“Your daughter is a human child and she is worthier than an animal”

I know that you’re on the run, but the problem is “you stop your child from learning”. After, you spank her like a fascist, she tends to hide so many things from you.

Let me also tell you that you’ve no clue, even if your child is sexually abused!

Still, if you cling to discipline your child by spanking her…it’s she, who is going to reap the fruits of your cultural arrogance!
